Google Plus joins the long list of social networking sites that have popped up in recent years.

The rivalry between Google and Facebook has been fierce and so it is no surprise that the world’s most popular search engine has produced its own answer to the world’s most popular social networking platform.

So far Google Plus has been growing rather rapidly and people have been given it rave reviews. Especially the ‘Hangouts’ feature has been well received.

This feature allows video conferences between groups, sort of like Skype although with the latter the user is limited to one to one conversations.

But there’s also trouble. Google Plus does not allow people to sign in under nicknames.

As a result, many accounts have been closed down.

It’s good that Google keeps a tight leash on its new toy, but a major appeal of social networking includes the fact that people can be kind of anonymous. Nicknames are often fun, harmless and in a lot of cases wildly known amongst friends and families.

Let’s see if Google will catch up because otherwise I fear that Ebonouska Dangerdwarf will not joining the Plus of Google.
