It is really strange to see that 87 per cent of British businesses are connected to a broadband line and a further four use dial-up to connect to the World Wide Web.
My question is how can the remaining nine per cent operate daily without broadband access?
It seems we rely on Internet to do absolutely everything: shopping, be it for clothes or groceries, reading the news, watching films and calling our friends and families.
Furthermore, schools and universities also rely on broadband access – a lot of academic sources are now based online. We all are so dependent on broadband, has it become some sort of a digital drug?
To a modern businessman, it is somewhat of a mystery as to how these nine per cent of businesses operate day by day, no doubt. One can only imagine his office desk without a computer or smartphone – what work could be done without those?
Day by day, we compare broadband: why our neighbouring businesses have faster upload and download speeds, unlimited downloads – in a nutshell, sometimes broadband takes the blame for a slow working day.
So are these nine per cent of undigitalised businesses heroes or victims for working without access to broadband?
