O2 Broadband, one of the UK’s most popular broadband providers has commissioned research to show that slow broadband speeds are one of UK consumers’ biggest frustrations.
O2 broadband commissioned the broadband research in conjunction with Populus as part of their new broadband and home phone marketing campaign. The survey of 2,000 broadband customers shows that 41% of broadband users cite “a slow broadband connection” as their biggest daily frustration.

And 36% of respondents indicated that unfriendly and unhelpful broadband customer support was their biggest bugbear. This nicely supports O2 Broadband’s new “niggles and narks” marketing campaign, which conveniently “aims to tackle some broadband frustrations such as slow connections and lack of friendly customer support”

Felix Geyr, Head of O2 Home Broadband, commented: “It’s clear from this poll that the British public is getting increasingly frustrated with the UK’s broadband services.”
“As the new government comes in, and it looks to get the UK online and connected by 2020, we think that now is the time for all ISP’s to change their ways and try to eliminate as many of these daily frustrations for our customers as we can.”

Even though the broadband survey is designed to prove a particular point, it is clear that broadband speed is a major issue in the UK. The average broadband speed is still just over 4 Mbps, which is very slow by international standards.

Personally I would be a whole lot happier if I ever got anything like the speed I paid for. 8Meg broadband sounds great but I get less than half that on a regular basis. My ISP says it’s to do with distance from the exchange, so then why sell me the product in the first place; they say I can’t downgrade and that if I went for their 4meg package I might only get 2meg – how is that fair?
