With a plethora of broadband deals now on the market it’s now as easy as ever to switch broadband providers. Although, deciding what provider you want to switch to can take hours of research, weighing up the pro’s and cons of each package.

Simplifydigital aim to take the hassle out of comparing providers by allowing you to compare over 6,000 packages in a matter of seconds. Our service is the only one in the UK that carries an Ofcom accreditation.

Ofcom have also had a hand in helping people switch providers. It was their idea to introduce the industry wide rule that a provider must supply the customer a Migration Authorisation Code (MAC) upon request.

How does the MAC process work?

Once you decide you want to switch broadband provider you ask your internet provider for a MAC code.

It consists of four letters beginning with L followed by between seven and nine numbers, a slash, and five alphanumeric characters (e.g. LAEM1234567/1F6HT).

Your existing ISP must provide the MAC to you within five working days and it’s valid for a period of 30 days.

Remember, by law your internet provider must provide you with your MAC code. What they may do is refer you to their retention department and offer you a better deal in order for your continued business. Keep in mind though, you wanted to switch broadband providers for a reason so don’t let their ‘improved’ offer cloud your decision too much.
