Digital Switchover started in late 2007 in the Border TV region and has since moved on to the West Country TV area.  The west Country digital TV switchover finishes this week when the analogue TV signal covering 300,000 homes in Wales and the remainder of the West Country will be switched off tomorrow.

This will bring the total homes switched from analogue to digital up to 1 million according to Digital UK.

Digital UK chief executive David Scott said: “This week marks a significant milestone for our campaign. As we prepare to switch our millionth home, we are confident that most viewers are well prepared for the end of the analogue era.”

Feedback seems to be broadly supportive of this view with the majority of TV homes having switched to digital TV in previous weeks.  Though families have been caught out as of course every set in the house needs to be switched over to digital TV.  Most homes have Freeview or pay digital V (such as Sky or Virgin Media) on their main sets, but often forget about additional sets in bedrooms etc.

When the digital switchover is completed in 2012, 98.5% of UK homes will be able to receive the Freeview DTT channels, up from 73% in 2008.
