A new documentary season that will include never-heard-before radio interviews and rare footage will be coming to BBC Two and BBC Four TV both available on Freeview.
Rare footage of the Beatles together in a studio will be shown as part of a season of programming as BBC Two and BBC Four join forces for ‘Beatles Week’ beginning with programmes on Saturday 5th September. It will start with a programme called ‘The Beatles On Record’ offering a concise history of the beatles studio work, followed by ‘The Beatles: The First U.S. Visit’, a film made by the Maysles bothers about the groups first trip across the pond in 1964.
Fab Four fans are spoilt for choice
BBC 4 will show Storyville’s account of how the Beatles music may have had some part in the collapse of the USSR and archive footage featuring footage of artists who have covered Beatles songs over the years.
Other highlights include: ‘Filming The Beatle’s First U.S. Visit: Albert Maysles, which gives the viewer a sneaky peek behind the scenes of the legendary documentary.

This season of programming further shows how there is a close working relationship between BBC Two & Four and viewers will be encouraged to continue on from one show to another across the two channels.
Viewers without digital TV will be unable to view the BBC Four shows but can watch part of the season on BBC Two analogue if available to them.
No doubt this special season will also be available on the iPlayer, the on-demand TV service from the BBC that is available on Virgin Media and BT Vision as well as online.
George Entwistle, Controller, Knowledge Commissioning at the BBC, says: “This is a chance for viewers to enjoy some rare footage and fascinating insights into the career of the greatest pop group of all time.
“Through BBC Two and BBC Four’s close working relationship we will be inviting our audience to join us on a rich and colourful journey across two TV channels, though new and archive content, shown in just one week in September.”
The programmes start on Saturday 5th September and then the main season begins on Sunday the 6th when a week of shows will begin.
