The UK’s first fibre optic high-speed broadband network has just been completed.
To celebrate, Virgin Media will be dropping the price of their break through 50Mb broadband product.
The past 18 months has seen Virgin Media use the latest technology to beaver away on their network to ensure that their name is the first name that comes to mind when anyone mentions super-fast broadband.
The result?
Virgin Media have tripled their network capacity and are the first and only company (so far) to offer rapid broadband speeds to over 12 million UK homes via their fibre optic network.
High speed broadband without the high price
From the 1st of September Virgin Media will reduce the monthly cost of their 50Mb service for new and existing customers to £28 when taken with a Virgin Media phone line or £38 standalone. That’s a monthly saving of £7 and £12 respectively.
Naturally, Virgin Media are continuing to push the boundaries with their broadband offerings.
Present day see’s the pioneers of fibre optic broadband trialling a range of upload speeds of up to 10Mb which is what most DSL download speeds fare at. The IT gurus at Virgin Media are also piloting the deployment of a 200Mb broadband product to various lucky residents in Ashford, Kent.
Thankfully this guy isn’t working for Virgin's fibre optic team.
Also on the horizon is Virgin Media’s first ever specially designed ‘Freedom Netbook’. The laptop, which will be available from this week, will come in black or Virgin Media’s distinctive red. They have also been kitted out with top of the line software in order to handle the 50Mb speeds. At this stage there are no exact details but we hear they are likely to be freebies on selected bundled plans.
