Sky announced their annual results for the year ended 30th June 2009 today which showed a very strong performance. Net customer additions of 462,000 for the year was the highest in five years, bringing Sky’s total customer base to over 9.44 million.
Sky sold over 530,000 Sky+HD subscriptions since January 2009 to take the number of Sky high definition TV (HDTV) customers to 1.313 million. 5.5 million households or 58% of the Sky digital TV customer base now have Sky+, the industry leading PVR.
Sky Broadband also made progress, putting on 118,000 customers in the last quarter to reach over 2.2m customers in total, whilst Sky Talk (the Sky home phone product) reached 1.85 million customers. Sky also started selling line rental heavily in the last quarter and now have nearly 1 million line rental customers.
This compares to 47,000 net additions achieved in the last quarter by TalkTalk who now have 2.85 million customers.
So the Sky train keeps on rolling, based on a strong mix of top quality TV content; an industry leading HDTV proposition with the Sky+HD box only £49 and a range of 33 HD channels to choose from; and a very good value triple play - TV, broadband and home phone bundle offer.
