The digital TV switchover got underway across Cumbria this morning, as analogue BBC Two was turned off at transmitters across the county.

An improved digital signal will be made available to Cumbrian residents who will be able to receive digital TV through their aerial via their set-top box.

The first stage of the switchover will only affect the BBC channels such as BBC One, Two, Three, Four, CBBC, BBC News and BBC Parliment.

The second stage of the switchover, which will take place on the 22nd of July, will update all other channels such as ITV, Channel 4 and Five etc..

Once services are all updated, viewers of Freeview, BT Vision and TopUp TV should retune their boxes.

To avoid mass disappointment make sure you have the right equipment to receive the digital transmission.

John Askew, Digital UK’s Regional Manager for the Border TV region, said this morning: “Cumbria’s switchover is underway, and many people are receiving Freeview channels for the first time.

“We’re now encouraging viewers who still don’t have the necessary equipment to get ready in time for 22 July, when all the analogue channels will be permanently switched off. Anyone who  needs advice during this period should contact Digital UK.”
