Leaked documents online give details of Virgin Media’s new V+ digibox.  The PVR (personal video recorder) box will continue to offer the same broad PVR and high definition (HDTV) capability and will look sleeker, but will offer fewer connections compared with its SA8300HD predecessor.

Component output has been removed, with HDMI being the sole high definition-capable outlet at the back of the box. Other connectors removed include eSATA so that users will not be able to boost V+ storage capacity by connecting an external hard drive.

It will, however, be equipped to allow recordings to be made from radio channels – a feature planned for the SA8300HD boxes in a future software release.

The software will be largely unchanged on the current software in use in existing V+ boxes, and development work will continue on software for both the SA8300HD and Samsung models.  However a major software release codenamed “UK5″ will roll out onto all boxes to support Virgin Media’s next generation TV products, which will initially launch in Kirklees, Leeds and Barnsley.
